This short film introduces the blurred line between human uniqueness and AI mimicry, using real people and AI-generated “digital twins” to reflect on and examine how technology replicates human behaviour, like puppets brought to life by invisible strings. It prompts reflection on what truly defines us as human.
The film compiled interviews with individuals writing the answer of two key questions:
“What does it mean to be human?”
“Does the presence of AI blurs out or enhances your sense of humanity?”
After answering the questions participants were given a text. The text also addressed the same questions, but it sounded weirdly familiar.
Prior to this moment I’ve interviewed the participants on their lives, values, memories. I fed the transcripts of those conversations to ChatGPT, and asked for it to impersonate those participants. I interviewed it with the same questions. And it's answers are the texts I’ve provided to the participants.
Surprised, scared, amused, unimpressed, the reactions varied, but generally, this experiment allowed them to compare their thoughts to an AI-generated reflection of themselves.
In that way, half of the responses presented in the film, had not been given by the real individuals but were instead generated by AI- powered digital twins. The surprise was in the revelation to the participants, but also to the viewer.
How can AI challenge the way we see ourselves?
