My Furniture Sucks

This furniture system is made from stainless steel sheets connected only by suction cups. Usually seen as temporary and unreliable, suction cups are used here precisely because they allow the pieces to be attached and removed without tools or permanent connections.
This gives the furniture the freedom to change rather than remain fixed to a single function.By simply moving the same panels around, a chair can become a table or take on a completely different form. The result is a furniture system that anyone can take apart, rearrange, and rebuild.

From the front, the steel plates are fully visible. Viewed from the side, the thin plates appear as lines, revealing the suction cups and creating a playful shift in perspective.

A bit more of my process...

The proposal for this project was to explore unusual connections between materials
and discover new ways of joining them together.
Over several weeks, we experimented with a range of material samples before developing the most promising ones further.
I was particularly drawn to a sample that connected steel sheets using suction cups, as the connection proved to be much stronger than expected.
To test its potential, I developed a series of small-scale prototypes, including a box and a miniature chair.

The samples helped me determine the dimensions of each piece and calculate the distance created by the suction cups between the steel sheets. I also explored how different shapes and sizes could be used to create different types of furniture.
